Made in the Midlands Award

Congratulations to our Process Engineer, Rachel Wiffen, who has been awarded the prestigious Made in the Midlands Women in Engineering Award (2017). Rachel, who started her career with us as a Manufacturing Graduate in 2013, has had a significant, positive impact on our litho-finishing department. Her achievements include:

  • Optimising line tensions to eliminate customer defects; this means that we are able to produce more material for our customers
  • Optimising line conditions (including spray patterns) to ensure that we can produce light gauge materials on our lines
  • Introducing a roll monitoring programme - including the measurement of roll profiles and roughness measurements; this helps to ensure that rolls in the line are in specification and minimises downtimes, assisting us to change the right rolls at the correct time
  • Establishing and managing a training matrix for operator development

The Made in the Midlands (MIM) judging panel agreed that Rachel should be crowned MIM's Female Engineer of the Year, having made a significant contribution to our business and inspiring others through her work as a STEM Ambassador.
