We take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously, using mostly renewable energy and supporting local causes

Sustainability and Social Responsibility

We actively reduce our impact on the environment by responsibly sourcing energy and minimising our carbon footprint. We also help to fund many local initiatives including trusts, charities and community organisations.

 Sustainability

As a result of our ongoing efforts to reduce energy usage per tonne of finished product, Bridgnorth Aluminium Ltd continues to see a year-on-year decline in our consumption. We minimise our carbon footprint and process wastage by casting approximately half of our own aluminium rolling slabs on site and recycling our own aluminium process scrap.

To ensure that our whole supply chain reflects our ethics, any bought-in metal is purchased from non-conflict areas. Additionally, Bridgnorth Aluminium will not give instructions for work to contractors who have not achieved SafeContractor accreditation (i.e., evidenced meeting our sustainability standards). Our partnership with Alcumus SafeContractor enables full visibility of risks from contractors within our supply chain. By working with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to sustainability, we continue to improve our sustainability performance.

Sustainable Development Goals

Bridgnorth Aluminium Ltd is working to align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs cover all areas of sustainability, as we aim to do through our own sustainability efforts. Informed by a materiality assessment, we match the areas of sustainability that our stakeholders are most interested in against the SDGs. This systematic process enables us to focus our sustainability efforts on key areas, where we can make a significant and meaningful impact.

In line with the SDGs, our primary sustainability-related goals are:

  • Good health and well-being (Goal 3)
  • Quality Education (Goal 4)
  • Decent work and economic growth (Goal 8)
  • Industry, innovation and infrastructure (Goal 9)
  • Responsible consumption and production (Goal 12)
  • Life on land (Goal 15)

To support our achievement of these goals, our Sustainability team regularly reports on our progress and delivers SDG-related training and resources to employees (educating people on the SDGs and sustainable development is a key part of Goal 4).

Energy Management

Bridgnorth Aluminium Limited goes to great lengths to minimise our impact on the environment, both locally and globally. Over 40% of our energy is sourced from a local anaerobic digestion facility, which significantly reduces our carbon footprint and relieves pressure on landfills. We also practice energy recuperation techniques, using the heat generated from our casting process to warm degreasing chemicals organically.

Conflict/High-risk Area Statement:

We, Bridgnorth Aluminium Limited, are not in a high risk or conflict affected area. This is checked yearly against the Heidelberg Institute Conflict Barometer. Using a Procurement Code of Conduct, we check our suppliers for their Labour and Human rights policies.
