Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, executing and leading of project activities for manufacturing projects, equipment specifications, supplier selections, equipment commissioning and validation. Working a Flexi-time day pattern they will sit within the Engineering department reporting into the Engineering Manager.

Salary: Competitive, Dependant on experience
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week within a flexi-time system of 8am-6pm
Status: Full time, Permanent

Main tasks will include:

  • Executing capital and improvement projects from conception to handover
  • Evaluating, organising and prioritising workload within a schedule
  • Following deadlines to ensure projects are delivered on time
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with external contractors and suppliers
  • Working closely with various departments to ensure there is a smooth transition from project to manufacture
  • Identifying and managing project blockers ensuring critical paths are not affected
  • Investigating and reviewing new technologies and innovations related to project development
  • Obtaining quotes and managing costs for project related tasks
  • Data collection and report creation

The successful candidate will need:

  • A degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Experience of project engineering within a manufacturing industry or similar, including machinery installation and commissioning
  • A strong working knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Project management capability with the ability to work within budgets and to deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels
  • The ability to interrogate and manage data
  • The ability to write concise and cogent reports
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate and persuade at a senior level
  • Excellent IT skills including use of Office and CAD packages
  • A working knowledge of CDM regulations

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Chartered Engineer status
  • A working knowledge of Prince2 project management methodology
  • Experience of Agile tools, Lean techniques and 6-sigma methodology
