Condition Monitoring Engineer

Reporting into the Engineering Manager and working within the Maintenance Department, the Condition Monitoring Engineer will provide engineering support that ensures asset reliability through the application of condition monitoring practices across site. They will work to design and implement a Condition Based Monitoring (CMB) plan, utilising relevant technology and providing guidance/training to staff where applicable.

Salary: Competitive, Dependant on experience
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week within a flexi-time system of 8am-6pm
Status: Full time, Permanent

Main tasks will include:

  • Assessing condition monitoring equipment needs across site, developing a comprehensive CMB plan according to asset criticality
  • Leading the implementation of a condition monitoring programme across site
  • Continuously reviewing and improving the effectiveness of the CBM programme in conjunction with Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance teams
  • Driving the implementation of CBM best practices and techniques across site
  • Reviewing OEM maintenance manuals and relevant data in order to develop inspection plans across all assets
  • Assisting in chronic & recurring Failure Elimination/Root Cause Analysis (RCA) studies as required
  • Leading the consolidation of the CBM budget and forecasting process, proposing and justifying CAPEX projects
  • Ensuring all condition monitoring instrumentation and tools are kept in good operating condition, maintaining an up-to-date record of CBM tools and equipment along with their documentation and calibration/service
  • Providing hands-on and/or classroom training to peers and colleagues
  • Identifying external condition monitoring and/or asset management training, working with colleagues to organise when necessary
  • Developing Standard Operation Procedures for CBM related tasks/jobs across site
  • Compiling engineering reports related to asset management and condition monitoring as requested

The successful candidate will need:

  • A BEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • A working knowledge of relevant condition monitoring principles and asset management practices demonstrated in an engineering/maintenance/reliability field
  • To be a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) or an equivalent Professional Body
  • The ability to accurately compile, interpret and make use of technical data, writing and specifications
  • Knowledgeability in the area of equipment lubricants and lubrication techniques
  • A basic understanding of Asset Management BS ISO 55000, 55001 and 55002
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Experience in working with Computer Maintenance Management Systems
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis tools/techniques
  • Working knowledge of CAD package(s)
  • A positive, can-do attitude, with the ability to be creative, adaptive and perform well under pressure 

The ideal candidate would have:

  • An MEng in Mechanical Engineering or MSc in an Engineering-related subject
  • Chartered Engineering (CEng) status (or working towards) with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), or equivalent professional body
  • Extensive knowledge in the area of Predictive Maintenance and Asset Management
  • Knowledge of Prince2 Project Management methodology
  • Experience in TPM and Agile tools, techniques and methodology
  • Working experience in equipment and asset commissioning
