Research Chemist

The Research Chemist role is to maintain the chemistry laboratory within the Research & Development Centre and carry out regular routine testing to support the companies production processes. In addition, the Research Chemist is required to deliver technical research projects from design to reporting stages. Projects may range from short-term investigations supporting daily business issues; to longer-term product or process development projects. The role of the Research Chemist requires working both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team both in the Laboratory and across the whole of the manufacturing facility.

Main tasks will include

  • Carrying out analytical investigations in support of the business using various techniques and equipment available and to communicate aspects of the analytical or research activities with employees at all levels within the Company
  • Reporting results of investigations and research within the organisation in both written and presentation formats
  • Ensuring that requested laboratory services are provided to the company in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Publication of routine laboratory test results to required timescales
  • Detailed verbal and written correspondence with outside organisations providing technical reporting of status and outcomes of activities
  • Preparation of project plans and Gantt charts
  • Ensure any incoming work is agreed and documented using the Research & Development Centre project management system
  • Key contributor to Research & Development and Technical projects
  • Responsibility for advising on control of chemistry and its interaction with process and/or product
  • Leading projects on the development and implementation of process fluids
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Company documentation relating to the ISO Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety systems concerning the Research & Development Centre
  • Supporting and standing in for the Research & Development Centre Manager as required

Essential Education Requirements

  • Degree in a Chemistry related or Scientific discipline

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) longer working hours or working over weekends/holidays might be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
