Operator - Water Treatment Plant

This role sits within the Chemical Operations team within the Operations department. The Water Treatment Plant Operator will receive instruction from the Chemical Process Engineer in the first instance but will ultimately report into the Environmental Emissions Manager.


Water Treatment Plant Operator - General Duties and Responsibilities – training will be provided for this role for the suitable candidate

Working within the Chemical Operations Team the scope of the role: (not exhaustively):

  • Operating and monitoring the waste water treatment plants with balancing water treatment process for optimum efficiency
  • Operating and monitoring the reverse osmosis plants
  • Once trained using initiative to resolve any issues in the waste water treatment plants and reverse osmosis plants in a timely manner
  • Operating, monitoring and logging parameters on the Ultrafiltration units
  • Carrying out cleaning cycles on the filtration units
  • Operating and maintaining the water treatment filter presses
  • Transporting and maintaining levels of chemicals in waste water treatment plants
  • Auditing wastewater tank levels
  • Monitoring and logging parameters on the Airpure and vacuum distillation unit
  • Maintaining high levels of housekeeping in working area with a high level of attention to detail
  • Disposing of waste generated via water treatment plants
  • Liaising with external waste disposal companies
  • Communicating with supervisor or managers regarding the ordering of chemicals, waste skips etc.

Water Treatment Plant Operator - Necessary Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • The ability to use/be effectively trained in the use of forklift trucks and other mobile plant
  • The ability to use/be effectively trained to operate the controls of plant machinery
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately describe faults and problems
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision after initial instruction
  • A strong understanding of Health and Safety requirements in the workplace
  • A strong understanding maintenance procedures and technical skills 

Water Treatment Plant Operator - Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications - these will be taught so not essential to the role

  • A flexible approach including the ability to prioritise various tasks with the ability to able to organise and follow a schedule
  • An understanding of plant maintenance and the operation of waste water treatment plant systems
  • Experience in making and installing U-PVC pipework joints
  • An understanding of water treatment/reverse osmosis/ultrafiltration theory 

Water Treatment Plant Operator - Package

  • Shift position 4 on (2 days, 2 nights) and 4 off
