Operator - Finishing Area

The Finishing Area Operator will work as part of a team, to produce clean, flat Aluminium strip free of surface defects from the Finishing Area for the printing plate industry. To fully inspect Litho and Foilstock to customer specifications. The Finishing Area Operator reports directly to the Finishing Area section leader on a day-to-day shift basis. The role sits within our Operations Department

Finishing Area Operator - Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The Finishing Area Operators are to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the production machinery and plant, you will ensure that the standards set are maintained and improved upon within the area of given responsibility and make sure production requirements are achieved and that production schedules are followed
  • Ensure that at all times the necessary materials and equipment are in place to ensure plant performance is optimised and audit forms are completed
  • Ensure that all work schedules are followed and adhered to, any deviation from schedule must be reported to the section leader 
  • It is essential that all operators work as a team and therefore communicate as such. Operators must be able to describe accurately any faults or problems occurring in the process to Area Operations Managers, Process Engineers, and Section Leaders, maintenance personnel or other operators
  • Operators are responsible for making decisions on surface defects and their suitability for individual customer accounts
  • Operators have a responsibility to stop any process in the Finishing Area for rectification work to be carried out if they consider that quality to the customer is being compromised
  • Housekeeping is the responsibility of all the operators and the area must be kept in a high standard of order and cleanliness
  • Operators must be able to describe accurately any faults or problems occurring in the process to management, the Section Leader, maintenance personnel or other operators verbally and by completing relevant documentation
  • Must be completely flexible with all the functions on the line and change positions on an agreed rotation and have ability to operate all machine equipment within the area of responsibility
  • Must be able to work with a minimum of direct supervision; continually monitoring product quality and making minor changes to the process when required
  • Has the dexterity necessary to drive a fork lift truck and operate the overhead crane – instruction will be given

Finishing Area Operator - Skills (Highly desirable although training will be given to successful candidates)

  • Knowledge of relevant customer specifications regarding surface finish, shape and physical dimensions
  • Able to recognise errors in the system and can override manually if necessary
  • Must be a careful operator with a keen eye for detail
  • Understands metal purities and colour codes in order to keep all scrap segregated
  • Understands all facets of the production process i.e. stretching, levelling and degreasing

Finishing Area Operator - Package

  • Please note this on the 4/3/4/3 SHIFT (No rota’d weekends) rotation/position – this will incorporate both days and night shift working

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) longer working hours or working overtime might be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
