Operator - Chemical / Oil / Water Treatment

This role sits within the Chemical Operations team within the Operations department. The Chemical Process Operator will receive instruction from the Chemical Process Engineer in the first instance but will ultimately report into the Environmental Emissions Manager. The role job purpose is for the Operation, control and monitoring of water treatment plants, oil filtration processes, Airpure and WOR distillation systems.

Chemical Process Operator - General Duties and Responsibilities – training will be provided for this role for the suitable candidate.  Working within the Chemical Operations Team the scope of the role: (not exhaustively):

  • Operating and monitoring the waste water treatment plants, the Airpure and WOR distillation unit and the cold rolling oil filtration and auxiliary equipment 
  • Balancing water treatment process for optimum efficiency 
  • Operating and monitoring the reverse osmosis plants – after training
  • Once trained using initiative to resolve any issues in the waste water treatment plants / reverse osmosis / Airpure / Oil filtration plants in a timely manner
  • Transporting and maintaining levels of chemicals (inc. oils) in Chemical dept. plants
  • Communicating with supervisor or manager regarding the processes Inc. ordering of chemicals, waste skips etc.
  • Ensuring housekeeping in WWTP(s), oil filtration areas and oil distillation areas is kept to a high standard
  • Ensure any problems, concerns with systems are reported or noted to manager via email/phone/face to face 
  • Ensure lone working procedure is followed at all times 
  • Daily shift reporting to be sent to manager with details/problems/downtimes of each shift
  • 4 hourly monitoring of WWTP2, distillation systems and general monitoring of oil filtration to be written in provided spreadsheets with daily emergency shower checks with log

Chemical Process Operator - Necessary Skills/Experience/Qualifications    

  • The ability to use/be effectively trained in the use of plant machinery, forklift trucks, cranes and other mobile plant
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately describe faults and problems 
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision after initial instruction
  • A strong understanding maintenance procedures and technical skills with the ability to be trained in the required technical skills/knowledge for the relevant machinery

Chemical Process Operator - Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications/Qualities - these will be taught so not essential to the role

  • An understanding of water treatment/reverse osmosis/oil filtration/distillation theory 
  • An understanding of plant maintenance, the operation of waste water treatment plant/oil filtration/distillation systems
  • An understanding of basic chemical safety and COSHH
  • Experience in making and installing U-PVC pipework joints would prove beneficial 
  • The aptitude to be trained technically on complicated chemical systems
  • The ability to drive FLT (after training), drive shunter (after training) for tanker movements on site
  • The ability to keep calm in stressful situations and to be a lone work for extended periods with minimal supervision 

Chemical Process Operator - Package

  • Shift position 4 on (2 days, 2 nights) and 4 off
