Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, executing and leading of project activities for manufacturing projects, equipment specifications, supplier selections, equipment commissioning and validation. Working a Flexi-time day pattern, they will sit within the Engineering department reporting into the Programme Manager.

Main tasks will include:

  • Executing capital and improvement projects from conception to handover
  •  Evaluating, organising and prioritising workload and resources within the project schedule
  • Following deadlines and project spend to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with external contractors and suppliers
  • Working closely with various departments to ensure smooth project execution and handover
  • Identifying and managing project blockers and risks ensuring critical paths are not affected
  • Investigating and reviewing new tools and techniques related to project execution and delivery
  • Obtaining quotes, preparing budgets and managing costs during the entire project lifecycle
  • Data collection and report creation

 

The successful candidate will need:

  • ESSENTIAL - A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline
  • Experience of project engineering within a manufacturing industry or similar, including machinery installation and commissioning
  • A strong working knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Project management capability with the ability to work within budgets and to deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels
  • The ability to interrogate and manage data
  • The ability to write concise and cogent reports
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate and persuade at a senior level
  • Excellent IT skills including use of Office and CAD packages
  • A working knowledge of CDM regulations

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent for the role of Project Engineer should be aware that depending on the business requirements (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) additional working hours or working over weekends/holidays may be necessary to fulfil the duties of the role.
