Mechanical Design Engineer

The role of Mechanical Design Engineer will join our Design Team and sits within our specialist Design Department. The purpose of this role is to support the Engineering department and other site project teams by providing advice on and creating solutions for installation site issues, and creating conceptual and detailed design models and drawings for both new and existing projects.

 

Mechanical Design Engineer - Main duties will include:

  • Work with various on-site teams to develop projects from concept to completion; including capital investment, project works and plant asset maintenance
  • Develop detailed 3D solid models and drawings/bill of materials for components and assemblies. Converting existing current 2D designs and layouts into 3D CAD technical models
  • Liaise with relevant departments to ensure drawings are correctly followed
  • Ensure project compliance with relevant planning, building and health and safety legislation
  • Design solutions for ad hoc site issues when required
  • Evaluate success of projects during and following completion
  • Integrating and converting externally produced drawings into Bridgnorth Aluminium format
  • Develop and write up technical reports as requested
  • Use the Engineering Design Request (EDR) logging systems to manage, report and progress work load
  • Awareness of document control procedures, ideally Autodesk Vault 
  • Liaise with unit reliability engineers, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Involvement in coaching and guidance for mechanical apprentices

 

Mechanical Design Engineer – The successful candidate will need:

Essential to the role

  • Degree is preferred, but we will consider HND in a Mechanical based qualification
  • CAD software or equivalent qualification, Autodesk products used on site. (Knowledge equivalent packages applicable)

Desirable

  • Commercial awareness including experience of working to budgets and strict deadlines
  • Experience in a relevant industry role 
  • An understanding of CE marking requirements
  • An understanding of the LOLER regulations of lifting equipment

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent for the role of Mechanical Design Engineer should be aware that depending on the business requirements (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) additional working hours or working over weekends/holidays may be necessary to fulfil the duties of the role.
