Reliability Engineer - Day Shift

The role of Reliability Technician sits within the Mechanical Maintenance Department. The purpose of this role is to ensure uninterrupted operation of the assets operating in the Finishing Area by reducing unplanned downtime, equipment failures and breakdowns while ensuring all assets are maintained adequately to operate within their designed capabilities.  The Reliability Technician will lead the day crew in the designated area to carry out planned maintenance work and also when required, work in other areas on site on planned maintenance days as per the maintenance planner.  The role reports on a day to day basis to the Area Reliability Engineer.

 Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the production machinery and plant
  • Take responsibility for maintenance on the shift outside normal working hours and on weekends, the Section Leaders are the Senior Maintenance personnel in the Division
  • To act as a role model and instruct the team so that performance requirements are achieved and that breakdowns and planned jobs are met
  • Ensure that at all times the necessary labour, materials and equipment are in place to ensure plant performance is optimised
  • To ensure that all breakdown priority lists are followed and adhered to, reporting any deviation from this list to the reliability engineers using the CMMS and e-mail
  • To review team and individual team member performance including disciplinary processes in conjunction with the Area Engineer and Mechanical Maintenance Manager
  • Delegate any relevant tasks throughout the team. The Section Leader will be held responsible at all times for the performance of the team, its members and results
  • To order emergency spares during weekends

Skills Essential to the Role:

  • Has the ability to work on all machine equipment within the area of responsibility
  • Has a thorough understanding of the safe working practices of all operations within the section
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the procedures, manufacturing processes, and methods within the area of responsibility
  • Knows how to use the CMMS and is able to train others on the system
  • Good working knowledge of plant and machinery with the area of responsibility to include Fork-lift trucks and overhead cranes
  • Has sufficient knowledge to successfully complete all necessary administration tasks
  • Understands the Key Performance Indicators within the area of responsibility and ensures they are met and improved, e.g.
  •  Understands the automatic fire equipment, its operation and the locking off procedures when working in protected areas.
  • HNC / NVQ3 / Time Served Apprenticeship
  • Knowledgeable in the area of equipment, lubricants and lubrication techniques
  • Ability to read and understand technical writing, specifications and interpret mechanical,               pneumatic, hydraulic drawings/diagrams and technical information
  • Experienced in the area of parts fabrication (e.g. machining, welding, turning, etc.)


  • Day Shift role – 4 days on / 4 days off
