Senior Product Engineer

The role of Senior Product Engineer is responsible for the consistency and development of existing and new products through delivery of effective development activities to increase knowledge, understanding and capabilities. You will lead a team of product engineers in order to manage related activities to achieve this. Working a Flexi-time day pattern this role reports directly to the Technical Manager.

Senior Product Engineer - Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance and development of a team of Product Engineers to co-ordinate activities in the development of existing and new products
  • Identify and manage activities to deliver improved consistency in the technical performance of existing products
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers and other key business stakeholders to identify and close technological product performance gaps
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance and training to teams to assist in delivering technical projects and development activities
  • Development and maintenance of product design documentation and process routes
  • Maintaining internal specifications to match customer requirements
  • Supporting operations and sales activities
  • Managing resources to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to agreed targets 
  • Supporting and deputising for the Technical Manager
  • Monthly reporting of key product performance data
  • Preparation and delivery of trial plans
  • Detailed technical reporting of status and outcomes of activities
  • Preparation of project plans and Gantt charts


Senior Product Engineer - Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Essential: Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Materials Engineering or other relevant science or engineering based subject
  • Essential: Knowledge of the technology and properties of aluminium flat rolled products
  • Essential: Proven track record in delivering projects to develop new and improve existing products
  • Essential:  Ability to train, mentor and lead others to deliver technical projects
  • Essential: Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Essential: Ability to initiate and manage improvement projects in conjunction with recognised Continuous Improvement methodology
  • Essential: Computer literate with demonstrable experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and a relevant statistical package (ie Minitab)
  • Desirable: Higher degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Materials Engineering or other relevant science or engineering based subject
  • Desirable: Use of statistical analytical techniques to identify product improvement programmes
  • Desirable: Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis tools/techniques

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent for the role of Senior Product Engineer should be aware that depending on the business requirements (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) additional working hours or working over weekends/holidays may be necessary to fulfil the duties of the role.
