Electrical Control Engineer

We are recruiting for an Area Electrical Control Engineer to work within our Aluminium Manufacturing Facility. The role of Area Electrical Control Engineer sits within the Electrical Maintenance Department. The purpose of this role is to ensure uninterrupted operation of the assets in the Cast House by reducing unplanned downtime, equipment failures and breakdowns while ensuring all assets are maintained adequately to operate within their designed capabilities. The Area Electrical Control Engineer will work as part of the local Manufacturing Team (Cell) reporting to the Area Operation Manager for the day to day issues within the Casthouse and alongside the Process Specialist, Area Mechanical Engineers and Technical/QA specialist. Working a Monday to Friday day shift pattern, you will ultimately report directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager.

Area Electrical Control Engineer - Main tasks will include:

  • Developing and implementing electrical maintenance activities for the machines and infrastructure within the area
  • Working with the Area Operations Manager and the rest of the area team to execute electrical and control maintenance during maintenance days and shutdowns and the Implementation and maintenance of Safe Operating Practices
  • Supervision of planned and preventative maintenance, condition monitoring and spares sourcing
  • Trouble shoot and resolve technical problems/issues in order to get assets back into running condition while aiming at minimising disruption and cost
  • Optimisation and improvement of electrical and control systems
  • Execution of electrical and control improvement projects
  • Responsible for maintenance or emergency repairs/inspections; ensure all documentation is delivered and recommendations or actions are followed up through to completion
  • Investigate and resolve all Electrical and Automation related issues in the area of responsibility
  • Monitor departmental daily check list data to identify key asset and sub-asset parameters that are of concern and propose corrective actions/measures
  • Conducting chronic and recurring Failure Elimination/Root Cause Analysis (RCA) studies as required; help implement, track and report the corrective actions with respect to its effectiveness in eliminating the problem(s)
  • Assist in the planning of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) by assessing asset and sub-asset criticality rankings, performing failure analysis and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Identify equipment critical spare parts; determine optimum quantity required on site (stores) and raise stock request forms
  • Issue works permits according to company or departmental procedures
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and review Method Statements for maintenance related jobs/tasks
  • Assist the Principal Contractor of the CDM area of responsibility during scheduled outages and shutdown periods
  • Provide on-site and hands-on training and guidance to electrical staff and apprentices for the execution of electrical/control maintenance tasks, jobs and processes

 

Area Electrical Control Engineer - The successful candidate will need:

  • ESSENTIAL HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, i.e. Automation or Control discipline
  • Working knowledge of relevant electrical/control principles and practices demonstrated in a relevant industry in engineering and/or maintenance fields
  • Ability to accurately compile, interpret and make use of data and other information to address electrical and control problems
  • Ability to interrogate and understand PLC Software (Siemens TIA Portal and Simatic Manager)
  • Ability to read and understand technical writing, electrical drawings and documentation
  • Ability to present research findings in clear, objective, written report form

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) longer working hours or working over weekends/holidays might be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
