Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) - Shift Rotation (Days and Nights)

The Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) will work as part of a team. This role sits within the Logistics team. The Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) will receive instruction from; and report into the Logistics Section Leader on a day to day basis in the first instance but will ultimately report into the Logistics Area Operations Manager.  The job purpose is to ensure the safe, correct and efficient packing, loading and movement of coils on site.

Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) - Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Understand and conduct the packaging and despatch requirements in the whole of the logistics and site area as detailed by the company
  • Ensure logistical internal and customer requirements are met
  • Understand, communicate and resolve logistical issues with other departments
  • Prepare and inspect 2nd QA coils and check first time samples
  • Move coils inter-department using FLT and Shunter vehicle
  • Operate Overhead crane, Brun crane, Reach Truck and Combi lift
  • Operate rewind machine to ensure drum supply and provide recyclable material
  • Weld coils and cores for Rewind
  • Communicate and liaise with Section Leaders, Gatehouses and greet external HGV drivers
  • Complete daily FLT, vacuum lift, racking and crane checks
  • Participate in stock taking and ensure consumables are always available
  • Pallet and Kapa reclamation
  • Must be completely flexible with all the functions on the line and change positions on an agreed rotation and have ability to operate all machine equipment within the area of responsibility
  • Has the dexterity to use a computer keyboard and basic computer packages - Microsoft word, excel, outlook and BA software packages
  • Shipping, despatch and goods returned documentation

Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) - Personal Qualities and Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • A flexible approach including the ability to prioritise various tasks
  • To be able to organise and follow a schedule
  • The ability to drive FLT (after training) and crane (after training)
  • The ability to keep calm in stressful situations
  • Willingness to work overtime
  • Focused target driven with a positive, can-do attitude to proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere

Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) - Package

  • Shift position 4 on and 4 off (2 days, 2 nights or 4 days)

Due to the nature of the business, the Logistics Area Operator (Temporary) - should be aware that depending on the business requirements (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) additional overtime may be necessary.
