Shift Control Technician

To detect and solve electrical faults on various electrical equipment on site. To assist in the Electrical Engineering function within the division in the provision of a safe, reliable Electrical distribution system. To ensure maximisation of plant availability though provision of effective planned and remedial maintenance

 Main Tasks & Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the correct and efficient repair of equipment keeping downtime to a minimum.   At all times the work must be done in a safe manner with awareness of the safety of others
  • Contribute to the in-house development of the Computer Maintenance Management System
  • In support of the engineering function you will develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated guidelines for the design and maintenance of equipment within the Electrical Engineering function as appropriate

Skills Essential to the Role:

  • ONC in Electrical Engineering or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical
  • BS7671 I.E.E Regulations
  • Working knowledge of relevant electrical engineering principles and practices or relevant industry in engineering and maintenance fields
  • Good working knowledge of electrical engineering procedures and systems to fulfil the Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apprentice trained in Electrical Duties
  • A good working Knowledge of Siemens PLC’s
  • Knowledge and understanding the operation of AC and DC Drives
  • Knowledge of AC/DC Motors
  • Knowledgeable in the area of Predictive Maintenance
  • Experience in working with a Computer Maintenance Management System
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis tools/techniques
  • Working knowledge and experience of CDM regulations
  • Good problem solving skills, attention to detail, methodical and calm with the ability to multi task
  • Ability to think analytically, motivate and communicate effectively with engineering team as well as production supervisors
  • A sound knowledge of the BS7671 I.E.E. Regulations and Electrical at work regulations
  • Conversant with regulations and amendments which arise, in relation to safe working practices, the specialised requirements for electrical hazards which could lead to personal injury or fire
  • Understands the engineering database systems as relevant to planned maintenance and logging of shift activities
  • Able to design simple electrical systems and draw schematic diagrams then transfer the information into practical use
  • Knows how to use universal measuring instruments as well as some specific company related instruments
  • An understanding of the working and construction of DC/AC machines
  • An understanding of mechanical systems including servo controlled equipment, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Able to design and manufacture electrical control panels
  • Understands PLC systems (Programme Logic Control) and the use of the associated tools for the interrogation of the software
  • An understanding of x-ray gauge control systems as applied on site
  • A sound knowledge of the application of AC/DC equipment
  • Understands National and International codes and symbols used on drawings and specifications.
  • Knows all the Health and Safety rules applicable to each department regarding their own and other operators safety
  • Knows all the fire and evacuation procedures as well as understanding all the automatic fire extinguishing equipment  and how to lock it off when working in protected areas
