Roll Grinding Operative

To produce ground steel/rubber rolls as required for production process within production areas. The Grinding operator reports directly to the area section leader on a day-to-day basis.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • To grind steel and rubber rolls for production in rolling mills and finishing lines within the business 

  • To ensure they meet required standards and specification for production and quality

  •  Is fully conversant with all the grinding machines in the Cold rolling areas, Strip mill and Rubber grinding B6 and knows how to set the machines to achieve the various cambers and roll finishes including dressing and balancing the grinding wheels

  • Profiles and measure end of rolls as and when required

  • Controls the machines parameters to ensure that the correct profiles, surface finish and sizes are achieved to meet process requirements

  • Maintains and checks oil levels of the grinding machines

  • Uses the overhead and pendant cranes to load and unload work rolls and grinding wheels

Skills Essential to the Role:

  Experience using computers to keep accurate records

• Training in the operation of overhead crane and FLT’s

• Experience taking measurements using measuring equipment

• Experience within a manufacturing environment

• An understanding of working to operational KPI’s
