Research Scientist

Reporting to the Research & Development Centre Manager, the Research Scientist will carry out all material and metallurgical research of the products made within the BAL organisation.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

§  Using all research techniques and equipment to conduct analytical investigations.

§  Research and development all activities in support of the business needs.

§  Interpret scientific data and experimental results.

§  Report all results in both written and presentation formats.

§  Responsible for mentoring other technicians and allocating work within the centre.

§  Ensure that requested laboratory services are provided to the business accurately and timely.

§  Ensure all incoming work is documented using the R&D Centre Project Management System.

§  Keeping the laboratories safely and efficiently and being responsible for specific equipment used within the R&D Centre. 

Skills Essential for the Role:

§  Essential - A degree qualification in a Scientific discipline.

§  Essential – A keen interest in metallurgy and materials science.

§  Desirable – A level qualification.

§  Desirable – A further degree in either Physics, Material Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

§  Desirable - Knowledge of the metallurgical aspects of the products made within the organisation.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday – 36.25 hours per week Flexi-time
